Today, more than ever, it’s very easy to start an online business, because the barrier of entry is very low and there are a wealth of possibilities & ideas that you can develop online.

I want to speak from my own experience, of many trials and errors and give you my 75 best online business ideas for beginners, to start earning an income online.

I’ve been creating websites since the ’90s and ventured into eCommerce very early. I am a part-time online entrepreneur, transitioning to full-time eventually. I work for a global company dedicated to building applications and have two different affiliate businesses.

I have learned from the best mentors in online marketing, so I want to share with you the best information that I’ve extracted from their courses and from my own experience.

It takes time to succeed in this game but the possibilities are endless. Let’s get started.

1. Start a Blog

Building a website with a topic you’re passionate about and monetize using ads and links to affiliate products, is one of the most popular online businesses you can create. You don’t need to be a guru nor have any design experience, you merely need to write about topics that interest you and want to share with the world.

You must create content periodically, do keyword research, optimize your content for those keywords, create great content and build backlinks to it.

Learn from the masters at this, people who are successful bloggers and have created specialized training to succeed. Learn how to blog following market demand, not just passion, and learn how to monetize correctly after your blog starts getting some traffic.

Blogging is a simple business model, that takes time to build but you can eventually earn passive income using affiliate links and ads.

How to Make Money Blogging

2. Affiliate Marketing

Another simple, yet powerful business model that is very popular, affiliate marketing means promoting someone else’s product or service and earning a commission for it.

Same as with blogging, this has to be done right If you want to succeed, so again I stress out to learn from the best people who have proven systems and follow their path.

There are many affiliate product networks out there like:

  • Amazon
  • Clickbank
  • jet.com affiliates
  • Offervault
  • Rakuten
  • Warrior+
  • Flexoffers
  • Shareasale.com
  • Commission Junction
  • Avangate
  • Maxbounty
  • Peerfly
  • JVZoo

The most important aspects that I’ve learned about selecting a product or service to promote is this, make sure it’s within your niche, that is of interest to your targeted audience and that is a reputable company that will pay you recurring commissions and is able to upsell and retain customers.

3. Become an Influencer

With the rise of so many social media channels, especially YouTube, Instagram, consumers are increasingly turning to them for product advice.

Start by posting videos or photos on any of these social platforms. Most likely, they won’t be very good when you’re getting started but as you gain more experience, they will become better and better. Keep in mind that initially, nobody will see them until you gain more momentum. With time, your content will be better, you’ll be more confident, and keep improving.

After you have a status, you can use it earn sponsored posts, advertising campaigns, events, promote products & services.

4. Start an E-Commerce Business

COVID has accelerated e-commerce 4-6 years, retailers are all moving online and closing brick and mortar stores.

With e-commerce there are several routes you can go:

  1. Dropshipping – post products from wholesales but let the suppliers manage all the shipping
  2. Selling products through Amazon FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon)
  3. Create your own store using Shopify or WooCommerce. Select a template, set up your store and sell your own products and services

There are many free courses on YouTube that will help you learn any of the methods described above, to get started.

5. Start a Podcast

Like blogs, you can generate income through Podcasts. The key aspect here is to gain an audience that trusts you and this can be easier to do through a Podcast.

Another advantage is that you can create a Podcast for free and you can record it using your smartphone. Some platforms where you can host your podcast for free are: Anchor.fm (app in Android or iPhone) or BuzzSprout.

6. Drop Servicing

This is a quite new method to create an income online. It involves you being a mediator where you sell services to customers and then hiring someone else that will actually provide the service for a lower price to you, pocketing the difference.

You become responsible mainly to deliver the services with quality and on time.

I strongly suggest that you have expertise in the service you’re offering, understand the requirements, communicate effectively with your service supplier, and ensure the service has the quality requirements.

7. Virtual Assistant

VAs are common these days to help to manage all types of administrative tasks like email handling, appointments, video editing, document writing, and pretty much any in-house staff task you can think of.

The business model is that hiring VAs is 60 – 80% cheaper than hiring a full-time employee.

If you have time and want to handle administrative tasks for companies or individuals, you can advertise yourself in several freelancing websites like Fiverr or Upwork.

8. Publish a Book

No matter what type of book you are thinking of, science fiction, children’s book, novel or manual, there are so many different options to successfully publish your work. You just need to type it in any word processor and release it PDF, digital document or hire an on-demand printing service like CreateSpace.

You can sell your ebook in an online store, on Amazon, or through a Digital Downloads app that makes them available as a product.

Once the purchase comes through, you can deliver your book as a download or through an email.

Self-publishing makes it easy to get your books available to potential readers and make money.

9. Start an FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) Business

Another popular business model is selling products using Amazon’s infrastructure, to list them and deliver to customers. In essence, you are leveraging Amazon’s distribution network and customer base. Amazon will also handle customer service and returns.

To the customer, there is almost no difference between purchasing from Amazon directly or through FBA, same delivery returns policy, and customer service.

You send your stock to Amazon FBA and focus on getting sales, that is in a nutshell what this business model is about.

If you like translation services and are fluent in several languages, you can work translating documents for companies, first on a freelancing service like Fiverr, and eventually create your own website and offer the services yourself, with a team to help you.

11. Web or Mobile Application Programming

The demand for quality programmers and custom application programming has skyrocketed in the past few years. Companies around the world struggle to find quality software programmers to satisfy the demand for launching new applications.

If this is a path that interests you, I suggest starting a career in this area, by taking an online training/certification in sites like Coursera, Udemy, Pluralsight, Linkedin Learning, etc.

You can start offering services on a freelancing website, offer competitive prices, and slowly transform it into a more lucrative business by increasing your portfolio of customers.

12. Create a YouTube Channel

There are plenty of opportunities to start a YouTube channel and make money with it. Your ability to create engaging content will play a crucial part in how well your channel does.

Maybe in the beginning you will create raw videos that will not be very good, keep in mind that not many people will watch them anyway. Beyond video #100, you will gain more and more confidence, create more quality content and take off with a successful channel.

The good thing about this model is that you can create many types of videos and you don’t necessarily need to appear in them. You might just put a presentation or some custom content and only do a voice-over.

There are even several AI voice-over softwares in the market that do the voice-over for you automatically, so you only need to supply a script.

13. Graphic Design

If graphic design is your passion, there is a myriad of possibilities to profit from it. You have the option to be in it full-time or freelance some projects.

The path I recommend is to start freelancing, find some gigs, acquire some experience, build your portfolio and move from there.

Once you earn your first commissión, excitement builds up and moves you towards setting up your own shop increase.

14. Photography

If you’re a gifted photographer, you can exchange your talent for cash. Several sites like Shutterstock for example will pay a commission for pictures they buy from you. You sell the rights and allow millions of users to download your pictures.

Companies like Vistaprint, UberPrints, Designhill, and eCommerce platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce, have made it extremely simple to start an online t-shirt business, and it doesn’t just have to be t-shirts, you can pretty much sell anything.

There are several apps you can download to your phone to earn money while shopping online, browse the Internet, and watching videos. You can also fill out some surveys, play online games, participate in polls, strangely as it sounds, you can gain money by doing that.

One of the great advantages today is that technology has expanded the ability to provide coaching services. Video conferencing for example would allow you to coach clients all over the world.

There are many types of coaching you can do, life and fitness being the most popular. You can also do other types of coaching like health, relationships, productivity, sales, etc.

Create your materials, videos, equipment to connect like software and headphones, and you’re ready to go. Build a website where you can promote yourself and your brand.

18. Sell an Online Course

Online courses are the new trend in education and it is projected to replace formal education (colleges and universities), sometime in the future. The reasons are simple, tuition rates are becoming unpayable, knowledge advances quicker than the years it takes to earn a degree and salaries are not matching what students owe in debt. You can add that to the fact that the knowledge you gained as a student, becomes obsolete quickly in the real world.

Many entrepreneurs and subject matter experts have created and sold online courses to sell their knowledge to others. This is a quick, industry-oriented, practical way to learn new knowledge, efficiently.

If you want to be part of this trend and share a piece of the estimated $457 billion dollar market pie, these are the strategies I suggest you follow:

  • Plan and define the strategy you want to use to deliver the content you plan to teach.
  • Invest in videos. That means, creating an inexpensive studio at first, where you can teach your content. You can use your smartphone to do it at first, with a nice background, in a quiet environment.

After the product is put together, promoting work begins using your own website, Amazon, email lists, or affiliate partnerships.

22. Remote Tech Support

Many small businesses don’t have the budget or inclination to hire full-time IT support engineering staff and they rely on remote tech support services to solve and/or prevent computer problems.

I personally know several friends who have these types of services and do extremely well with them. They offer service policies that cover any tech-support incidents, maintenance, backups, network operations, security, among several other services.

Many businesses don’t look for tech degrees, they look for experience and knowledge instead, so you can start offering these types of services, reaching out to family and friends, local business owners like small companies like restaurants, shops, etc.

One of the earliest business models on the Internet is still pretty much current today.

Don’t look to trade the most valuable ones, which are pretty much taken by now but look for trending domains that you can flip for money. The key is to identify trending names that have the potential to be sold later.
